The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has issued an important alert for all PF account holders.
The organisation has asked members to immediately check the mobile number linked to their EPFO account to avoid security risks and future problems while accessing PF services.
According to EPFO, keeping the correct mobile number updated in your account is extremely important because many key services depend on it.
Why Your Mobile Number Matters in EPFO Account
EPFO said that if the registered mobile number does not belong to the account holder, it should be updated immediately.
Members have also been advised to use the same mobile number that is linked to their Aadhaar card.
The mobile number linked to your EPFO account is used for several important services such as:
Resetting forgotten passwords
Checking PF balance
Receiving updates about employer contributions
Accessing account-related notifications
If another person’s mobile number is linked to your account, that person may receive your account details and could misuse the information.
This can put your PF savings and personal data at risk.
Aadhaar-Linked Number Needed for Claims and KYC
EPFO has also clarified that the mobile number linked with Aadhaar is necessary for online services like e-nomination and PF claim filing.
Without the Aadhaar-linked mobile number, members may face problems while:
Filing online PF claims
Adding e-nomination details
Updating KYC information
This is because OTP verification for these services is sent only to the Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
EPFO’s Advice for Members With Multiple UANs
The organisation has also advised members who have more than one Universal Account Number (UAN) to transfer their old UAN into the currently active one as soon as possible.
Doing this can help avoid account-related issues and make PF management easier in the future.
