Jio Voice-Only Plans are now available in India, starting at Rs 147, giving customers an option to recharge without paying for bundled mobile data.
Reliance Jio has introduced four shorter-validity calling packs following the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) directions on affordable voice-and-SMS-only plans.
The new options offer unlimited voice calling and 300 SMS, with validity ranging from 22 days to one calendar month.
Jio has also retained its longer-validity voice-only recharge options for customers who want to keep their SIM active for several months.
Jio Voice-Only Plans Start at Rs 147
Jio has introduced four voice-only prepaid recharge options for customers who primarily need calling and messaging services.
The Rs 147 plan provides 22 days of validity, while the Rs 177 recharge offers 28 days. Customers looking for a 30-day option can choose the Rs 196 plan.
There is also a Rs 197 recharge that comes with one calendar month’s validity.
Unlike a fixed 30-day plan, calendar-month validity means the next recharge date generally falls on the corresponding date of the following month.
All four plans include unlimited voice calling and 300 SMS during their respective validity periods. They do not include a mobile data allowance.
Jio Rs 448 and Rs 1,748 Long-Validity Calling Plans
Apart from the shorter-duration options, Jio also offers two longer-validity voice-only plans.
The Rs 448 recharge comes with 84 days of validity, unlimited voice calling and 1,000 SMS. It also includes access to selected Jio applications and additional bundled benefits.
For customers looking for a longer recharge period, the Rs 1,748 plan provides 336 days of validity. It includes unlimited voice calling and 3,600 SMS, along with selected complimentary digital services.
Neither of these plans includes a regular mobile data allowance. Customers who need internet access can consider purchasing a separate data voucher, subject to the applicable plan conditions.
Who Can Benefit From Jio Voice-Only Recharge Plans?
These recharge options may be useful for people who primarily use their mobile connections for calls and SMS rather than internet browsing.
Feature phone users, senior citizens, customers with secondary SIM cards and people who generally access the internet through home Wi-Fi may find such plans relevant.
Previously, customers who did not need mobile data often had to choose recharge packs that included data benefits.
Voice-and-SMS-only vouchers provide another option for people who want to pay mainly for the services they use.
The shorter-validity plans also give customers more flexibility compared with choosing only quarterly or annual recharge options.
Why Has TRAI Asked Telecom Operators to Offer Voice-Only Plans?
TRAI introduced revised rules requiring telecom operators to provide dedicated special tariff vouchers for voice and SMS services without bundled data.
The objective is to give consumers greater flexibility and reduce the cost burden on people who do not regularly use mobile internet.
The rules also require operators to offer different validity options, including plans lasting 30 days or less, a calendar-month option and at least one longer-duration voucher.
Jio’s latest plans follow this regulatory direction. Airtel and Vodafone Idea have also introduced voice-and-SMS-only recharge options.
TRAI has additionally directed operators to make these special recharge options easier to find through their digital platforms.
What Customers Should Check Before Recharging
Before choosing a Jio voice-only plan, customers should compare the recharge price, validity period and SMS allowance according to their requirements.
It is also important to remember that these plans do not provide bundled mobile data.
Users who depend on mobile internet for online payments, browsing, video streaming or other activities may need a separate data recharge.
Customers should check the latest plan details on the MyJio application or Jio’s official website before making a payment, as recharge availability and benefits may change.
