Stock Market Holiday will affect trading next week as the NSE and BSE will remain closed on Friday, October 2, due to Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.
With Saturday and Sunday following the holiday, investors will get a three-day market break.
The Indian stock market will therefore have only four trading sessions next week, from Monday to Thursday.
Why Will the Market Be Closed?
The NSE and BSE have listed October 2 as a market holiday on account of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary. There will be no trading in the domestic equity market on this day.
Since the holiday falls on Friday, traders and investors will have to plan their market activities around the three-day break.
Only Four Trading Days Next Week
The Indian stock market will remain open from Monday to Thursday. Trading will stop after Thursday’s session and resume after the weekend break.
The shorter trading week means investors should check the market calendar before planning transactions, especially if they are tracking specific stocks or market events.
Asian Markets Also Have Holidays
Several Asian markets will also remain closed during this period. Taiwan’s stock market will be closed on September 28 for Teachers’ Day and is scheduled to reopen on September 29.
China’s Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges will remain closed from October 1 to October 7 for National Day holidays. Trading is scheduled to resume on October 8.
Hong Kong’s stock exchange will also remain closed on October 1 for National Day.
Sensex and Nifty Performance
The Sensex gained 315.20 points, or 0.43 percent, in the latest trading session and closed at 73,895.74. During the session, it touched a high of 73,968.05 and a low of 73,477.77.
The Nifty also ended higher, gaining 77.40 points, or 0.34 percent, to close at 23,140.50.
However, the weekly performance remained negative. The Sensex declined 399.22 points, or 0.53 percent, while the Nifty lost 205.9 points, or 0.88 percent during the week.
What Investors Should Know
Stock Market Holiday on October 2 will create a three-day break for domestic investors when combined with the weekend. Trading will continue normally during the four scheduled sessions from Monday to Thursday.
Investors should check the official exchange holiday calendar before making plans around the market closure.
