Leaving your phone, wallet, bag, or other valuables on a train is a common mistake. Many passengers realize they’ve forgotten something only after getting off the train. However, losing an item on a train doesn’t always mean it’s gone forever.
According to Indian Railways, passengers can often recover their lost belongings if they report the matter quickly.
Railway officials advise passengers to immediately call the railway helpline number 139 or inform the nearest ticket inspector, station master, or railway staff member.
Reporting the issue early significantly increases the chances of getting the item back.
Vande Bharat Passenger Gets Lost Phone Back
Indian Railways recently shared an example of successful recovery. On June 28, a passenger traveling on the Vande Bharat Express (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra-Amritsar) train number 26406 accidentally left his mobile phone in coach C5.
After receiving the complaint, railway staff searched the coach and recovered the phone. Officials then used the passenger’s PNR details to identify and contact him.
After verification, the phone was safely handed over to the passenger’s brother at Amritsar railway station.
The passenger later thanked the railway staff for their quick action and honesty.
Two Passengers Recover Wallets After Alerting Railway Staff
In another incident on the same day, two passengers traveling on train number 22401 accidentally left their wallets in coach B12 after getting off at Jammu Tawi railway station.
The passengers immediately informed railway authorities. Railway staff quickly located and secured the wallets.
After completing the necessary identity verification process at the ticket inspector’s office, the wallets were returned to their rightful owners.
The passengers praised the railway staff for their prompt response and support.
Indian Railways Advises Passengers to Stay Alert
Speaking to News18 Hindi, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Jammu Division, Uchit Singhal, said that passenger safety, convenience, and the security of their belongings remain top priorities for Indian Railways.
He said that the honesty and dedication shown by railway employees reflect their commitment to public service.
According to him, returning lost items is not only part of their duty but also helps maintain passengers’ trust in the railway system.
Railway officials have also urged passengers to carefully check their seats, luggage racks, and surrounding areas before getting off a train.
Items such as mobile phones, wallets, laptops, chargers, and bags are often forgotten during travel.
If you realize that you’ve left something behind, avoid panicking and immediately contact the railway helpline 139 or inform the nearest railway official. Quick reporting can greatly improve the chances of recovering your lost belongings.
