What Has Changed in Late Payment Charges
Under the revised rules, charges for smaller dues have been reduced and made more structured.
If your outstanding amount is between Rs 100 and Rs 500, the late fee will now be Rs 100.
For dues between Rs 500 and Rs 1,000, the charge will be Rs 500.
Earlier, there was no charge for dues up to Rs 500, but higher penalties applied once you crossed that limit.
The new structure introduces smaller, gradual charges instead of a sudden jump.
Updated Late Fee Structure (From May 1, 2026)
Here’s how the revised charges look:
Rs 0 to Rs 100: No charge
Rs 100 to Rs 500: Rs 100
Rs 500 to Rs 1,000: Rs 500
Rs 1,000 to Rs 10,000: Rs 750
Rs 10,000 to Rs 25,000: Rs 950
Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000: Rs 1,100
Above Rs 50,000: Rs 1,300
Overall, the biggest change is in the lower slabs, making penalties more gradual.
Big Change for BPCL SBI Credit Card Users
There is also an important update for BPCL SBI Credit Card holders.
The annual fee of Rs 499 will now be waived only if you spend Rs 1 lakh in a year.
Earlier, the waiver was available at just Rs 50,000 annual spending.
This means users will now need to spend more to avoid paying the annual fee.
Understanding Annual and Renewal Fees
SBI credit cards come with two types of fees: annual fee and renewal fee.
The annual fee is a one-time charge when you get the card.
The renewal fee is charged every year.
Both fees can range from Rs 0 to Rs 9,999, depending on the type of card you use.
These charges are clearly shared with customers at the time of applying.
How These Charges Are Applied
All applicable fees are added directly to your credit card account.
They appear in your monthly statement for the billing cycle in which they are charged.
If you have additional cards linked to your main card, there may be separate charges for those as well.
The Bottom Line
The new late fee structure by SBI Cards makes penalties more gradual for smaller dues but keeps higher charges unchanged.
At the same time, BPCL SBI Credit Card users will need to spend more to get their annual fee waived.
Cardholders should review these changes carefully to avoid extra charges and manage their spending better.
