SBI Cash Withdrawal Rules will change from October 1, 2026, for customers holding Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD), Jan Dhan and other eligible zero-balance basic savings accounts opened through SBI branches.

Under the revised rules, customers who exceed the free monthly cash withdrawal limit will have to pay a charge for every additional transaction.

The new rule applies only to eligible basic savings accounts and does not affect digital transactions such as UPI, internet banking, mobile banking or NEFT/RTGS.

SBI Cash Withdrawal Rules

According to SBI’s public notice, customers with eligible BSBD accounts will continue to receive four free cash withdrawal transactions every month.

These free withdrawals can be made either through an SBI branch or an ATM.

Once the monthly limit of four free cash withdrawals is exhausted, every additional cash withdrawal will attract a charge of ₹15 plus applicable GST.

For example, if a customer withdraws cash five times in a month, the first four withdrawals will remain free.

The fifth withdrawal will be charged ₹15 plus 18% GST, taking the total fee to about ₹17.70. The same charge will apply to every additional cash withdrawal after that.

No change for digital payments

SBI has clarified that the revised rule is limited to cash withdrawals and does not affect digital banking services.

Customers can continue making unlimited transactions through UPI, internet banking, mobile banking and NEFT/RTGS without paying any additional transaction fee under this rule.

The bank has encouraged customers to use digital payment methods whenever possible, as these services remain free under the revised policy.

What is a BSBD account?

A Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) account is a savings account designed to provide basic banking services without requiring customers to maintain a minimum balance.

These accounts offer essential banking facilities while placing limits on certain cash transactions.

They are commonly used under financial inclusion initiatives, including Jan Dhan accounts and other eligible zero-balance savings accounts.

What customers should do

Customers covered under the new rule should keep track of their monthly cash withdrawals from October 1, 2026, to avoid unnecessary charges.

Using UPI, debit cards and other digital payment options instead of withdrawing cash frequently can help customers avoid paying the additional transaction fee.
