EPFO automatic PF transfer will make it easier for eligible employees to move their accumulated Provident Fund balance to a new PF account after changing jobs.

The facility applies to members whose UAN is linked with Aadhaar and who meet the required conditions.

Under the new system, employees do not need to submit a separate transfer request when they move to a new company, provided they meet the eligibility requirements.

The aim is to simplify the transfer process and keep retirement savings under the same UAN.

How EPFO Automatic PF Transfer Works

Employees changing jobs need to provide their existing UAN to the new employer instead of obtaining another UAN.

The new employer then records the joining and PF-related details with EPFO.

Once the required information is available and the first PF contribution from the new employer is received, the transfer process can be triggered automatically for eligible members.

This removes the need to separately initiate the transfer online or offline.

The facility is linked to specific eligibility conditions, including Aadhaar-linked and verified UAN details.

Members should therefore ensure that their UAN, Aadhaar and employment information are correctly recorded.

What Happens When You Change Jobs

Earlier, employees changing jobs could have to initiate the transfer of their previous PF balance to the new account.

The process involved providing the UAN to the new employer and, depending on the circumstances, submitting a transfer request through the EPFO system.

With the automatic process, the employee continues using the same UAN while a new PF member account can be associated with the new employment.

The previous PF balance can then be transferred to the new account when the applicable conditions are fulfilled.

Keeping one UAN throughout a career also helps connect PF accounts associated with different employers. EPFO states that the UAN remains the same when an employee changes employment.

Who Can Get Automatic PF Transfer

The facility is intended for eligible members whose UAN and Aadhaar details meet EPFO’s requirements.

The Aadhaar number needs to be seeded and verified against the UAN, while relevant employment details must also be available in the EPFO records.

Members should also use their existing UAN when joining a new company.

Checking that the UAN is active and the registered mobile number and other details are correct can help avoid problems during the process.

How to Check PF and Service Details

Employees who have recently changed jobs can check their employment and PF records through the EPFO member portal.

The service history section can be used to review previous and current employment details.

Members can also check their PF passbook to verify whether the balance from an earlier member account has been transferred.

EPFO’s transfer FAQ states that a completed transfer appears as a credit entry in the latest PF passbook.

Automatic transfer should not be confused with final PF withdrawal or settlement.

The facility concerns transferring the accumulated PF balance between accounts after a job change, while withdrawal is a separate process.
