The government has given taxpayers more time to file appeals before the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT).
The last date has now been extended to July 31, 2026.
The decision comes as a relief for many taxpayers who were facing technical issues while filing appeals on the GSTAT portal.
However, the government has also urged taxpayers not to wait until the last moment and to complete the process well before the deadline.
Why Was the Deadline Extended?
According to the government, the extension was granted after receiving requests from various stakeholders.
Many users reported technical problems caused by a heavy rush of appeal filings on the GSTAT portal.
Over the last 15 days alone, around 30,000 appeals were filed.
On some days, the portal handled as many as 5,500 appeals, leading to increased pressure on the system.
What Has Changed?
The government said the deadline for filing appeals under Section 112(1) read with Section 112(3) of the GST Act has now been extended to July 31, 2026.
Earlier, a notification issued on September 17, 2025, had fixed June 30, 2026, as the last date for filing GSTAT appeals.
Taxpayers Advised Not to Delay
While extending the deadline, the government has advised taxpayers to avoid waiting until the final day.
Filing appeals early can help prevent last-minute technical issues and ensure the process is completed smoothly.
