The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched a special Employee Enrolment Campaign (EEC) to bring more workers under the provident fund system.
The campaign is aimed at employees who were eligible for EPF but could not be enrolled earlier for various reasons.
Employers now have a special opportunity to register such employees and help them get social security benefits.
According to EPFO Jamshedpur Regional Provident Fund Commissioner Prashant Kumar, the campaign will remain open until October 31, 2026.
Employee’s Previous Contribution Can Be Waived
One of the biggest benefits of the campaign is related to past EPF contributions.
If an employer had not recovered the employee’s share of EPF contribution earlier, the employee’s contribution for the period from April 1, 2009, to March 31, 2026, can be completely waived under the campaign.
However, the employer will still have to pay its own share along with applicable interest and administrative charges as per the rules.
The compensation for defaults during this period has also been reduced to ₹100.
Which Employees Can Be Registered?
Employees can be covered under the campaign if they:
Were appointed by the concerned establishment between April 1, 2009, and March 31, 2026
Are still working with the establishment
Were eligible for EPF but were not enrolled earlier
Employers facing investigations or proceedings under the EPF Act can also participate in the campaign.
However, establishments where the assessment or determination process has already been completed will not be eligible.
How Can Employers Complete the Registration?
Employers who want to use the campaign need to complete the required process online.
As part of the process, the employee’s Universal Account Number (UAN) needs to be verified through face authentication using the UMANG app.
After completing the required verification, the employer must pay the applicable contribution through Electronic Challan-cum-Return (ECR) and submit the declaration through the EPFO online portal.
Employers Should Not Wait Until the Last Date
EPFO has advised employers to review their employee and salary records and identify eligible workers as soon as possible.
The campaign is available only until October 31, 2026, so employers who have eligible employees should complete the process before the deadline rather than waiting until the last moment.
The initiative could help employees who missed out on EPF coverage earlier get access to important retirement and social security benefits.
