Digital Life Certificate at home is now an option for EPFO pensioners and other eligible retirees who want to submit their annual life certificate without travelling to a bank or pension office.
India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) provides a doorstep service through which a postman or Grameen Dak Sevak can help pensioners complete the process.
The facility is particularly useful for senior citizens and people who find it difficult to travel.
It uses Aadhaar-based biometric authentication to generate a digital certificate known as Jeevan Pramaan, which serves as proof that a pensioner is alive and remains eligible for pension payments.
Digital Life Certificate at Home: Who Can Use the Service?
The doorstep service is available to eligible pensioners whose pension-disbursing agencies support the Digital Life Certificate system.
This includes eligible pensioners under the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS), as well as pensioners receiving benefits through participating central and state government departments and other authorised agencies.
Both IPPB account holders and non-IPPB customers can request the service, provided their pension-disbursing agency is enabled for digital life certificates.
EPFO has introduced a free doorstep Digital Life Certificate facility for eligible EPS pensioners through its arrangement with IPPB.
Other pensioners should confirm the applicable service fee before booking, as IPPB’s general service terms list a ₹70 charge for successful certificate generation, although doorstep charges are not levied separately.
How to Apply for Jeevan Pramaan Through IPPB
Pensioners can begin by contacting their nearest post office or requesting a doorstep visit through India Post Payments Bank.
A postman or Grameen Dak Sevak can visit the pensioner’s home and assist with the required verification.
Pensioners can also contact the IPPB customer care number, 033-22029000, to enquire about arranging the service.
During the visit, the postal employee will verify the pension details and complete Aadhaar-based biometric authentication using the supported process.
Once the certificate is successfully generated, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) sends a Pramaan ID to the pensioner.
This ID can be used to access and download the Digital Life Certificate through the Jeevan Pramaan portal.
Documents and Details Required for Digital Life Certificate
Before requesting a home visit, pensioners should keep their Aadhaar number and an active mobile number ready.
Their Aadhaar details should already be registered with the relevant pension-disbursing agency.
They should also have their pension type, pension-sanctioning authority, pension-disbursing agency, Pension Payment Order (PPO) number and pension account number available.
Keeping these details handy can help avoid delays during verification.
After completing the process, pensioners should retain their Pramaan ID and confirm that the certificate has been generated successfully.
They should also check whether the pension-disbursing agency has accepted the certificate, as generation alone does not necessarily confirm final acceptance.
Life Certificate Deadline and Important Rules for Pensioners
Central government pensioners generally have an annual life certificate submission window that runs until November 30, 2026.
Super senior citizens aged 80 years and above can submit their certificates from October 1, while other eligible central government pensioners can begin submitting from November 1.
EPS pensioners follow a different validity rule: their Digital Life Certificate remains valid for one year from the date of submission.
They should check their previous submission date and complete the next submission before the certificate expires to help prevent interruptions in pension payments.
Missing the applicable deadline or failing to complete verification may lead to delays in pension payments.
Pensioners should therefore check their own requirements and submit the certificate on time rather than relying solely on the general November deadline.
The doorstep Digital Life Certificate facility offers pensioners a way to complete an important annual requirement without visiting an office.
Before arranging a visit, they should confirm eligibility, the applicable fee and the certificate submission status with the relevant service provider.
