LPG Gas Cylinder e-KYC Rules are now important for consumers who want to continue receiving eligible cooking gas subsidies and benefits under state government schemes offering free LPG cylinders.
From October 1, 2026, domestic LPG consumers must complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) to book subsidised refills at the regulated price.
The requirement applies to customers of Indane, Bharatgas and HP Gas who have not already completed the authentication process. Consumers who have successfully completed it do not need to repeat the process.
LPG Gas Cylinder e-KYC Rules for Subsidy Benefits
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has made biometric Aadhaar authentication mandatory for subsidised domestic LPG refills.
The measure is intended to ensure that benefits reach eligible households and reduce duplicate or ineligible connections.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), eligible beneficiaries receive targeted financial assistance on domestic LPG refills.
The reported subsidy benefit is up to Rs 300 per eligible 14.2 kg cylinder, subject to the applicable scheme conditions and annual refill limit.
The subsidy is generally credited to the beneficiary’s linked bank account after the cylinder is purchased at the applicable retail price.
Consumers should check their PMUY status and bank details to ensure they meet the requirements.
Those who have not completed biometric authentication may be unable to book subsidised refills until they finish the process.
The government has clarified that eligible consumers can complete authentication through several available channels.
Which States Offer Free LPG Cylinders?
Apart from the central subsidy framework, several states have announced schemes offering free LPG cylinders or financial assistance to eligible households.
The number of cylinders, eligibility criteria and application process vary by state.
In Uttar Pradesh, the government has announced two free LPG cylinders annually for eligible beneficiaries, linked to Diwali and Holi.
Delhi has announced assistance for eligible ration-card-holding families under its free LPG cylinder initiative.
Andhra Pradesh’s Deepam 2.0 scheme provides eligible women holding white ration cards with three free LPG cylinders annually.
Uttarakhand has also announced three free cylinders per year for eligible Antyodaya ration-card holders.
Goa’s scheme for eligible Antyodaya Anna Yojana households provides annual assistance for three LPG cylinders.
These benefits are not automatically available to every LPG customer.
Consumers must meet the relevant state scheme’s eligibility conditions, which may include ration-card status, beneficiary registration and other requirements. Completing e-KYC is particularly important where biometric authentication is required to access subsidised LPG benefits.
How to Complete e-KYC for Indane, Bharatgas and HP Gas
Consumers can complete biometric Aadhaar authentication through their LPG distributor, during cylinder delivery where the facility is available, or through their oil marketing company’s official mobile application.
Indane Gas: Customers can use the IndianOil ONE app. After logging in with their registered details, they should locate the LPG or e-KYC section and follow the instructions for Aadhaar-based authentication.
Bharatgas: Customers can use the HelloBPCL app, sign in with their registered mobile number and follow the available e-KYC steps.
HP Gas: Customers can use the HP PAY app and locate the e-KYC option to begin the authentication process.
Consumers may also visit their LPG distributor for assistance or complete authentication during delivery if the delivery personnel offer the service.
Follow the official app’s instructions and provide consent before completing the face-authentication process.
Keep your Aadhaar-linked details and LPG account information ready.
If the online process does not work, contact the distributor for help rather than relying on unofficial websites or applications.
What Happens If You Do Not Complete LPG e-KYC?
Consumers who have not completed biometric authentication may lose access to subsidised refill booking until they complete the required verification. This can affect the amount they ultimately pay for LPG.
According to the government’s guidance, consumers who do not wish or are unable to complete authentication can register that choice through their oil marketing company’s available digital channels.
They may still receive LPG at market prices in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to local availability and the applicable process.
The requirement does not mean that every LPG connection is automatically cancelled for missing e-KYC.
Customers should verify their account status with the official provider and complete authentication if they want to retain eligibility for applicable subsidy benefits.
Before booking the next refill, check whether your biometric authentication is complete, confirm your eligibility for any state-level free-cylinder scheme and make sure your bank details are correct.
These steps can help prevent avoidable delays in receiving LPG benefits.
